Accessible SIPs Home in East Yorkshire, is a 'Life Changer' for Homeowners

When significant mobility issues meant that living in a much loved, life-long family home was no longer manageable for their mother, the Langton family knew it was time to build a new home that met her specific needs but would not compromise her independent lifestyle. SIPs were the perfect solution.

Set on a large plot backed by a railway embankment and just a few roads back from the beautiful Bridlington beach front, this energy efficient SIPs home has been designed to be a modern interpretation of a Victoria villa with impressive gable glazing and an internal lift.

Having used SIPs construction on many new build projects in the past, developer and son of the homeowners, William Langton of Langton Holdings Ltd is no strangers to the many benefits that building with SIPs provides.

From flexibility of design, speed of build and superior energy efficiency, the family knew that SIPs would be their construction methods of choice. In this case, a quick build was essential and as a SIPs home can be erected approximately 30-40% faster than a traditionally constructed building, Bridlington became Langton Holdings 36th project with SIPS@Clays.

Self designed by CW Langton, the 260 sqm two storey home has light filled hallways and large open plan rooms where the roof has been left open to the eaves to create impressive double height features with exposed glulam beams – one of the many design benefits of building with SIPs.

It was important that the new home had level access to provide seamless, unhindered navigation around the home. The off-site, precision engineering of the SIPs building system ensured all floors where completely level which would allow for easy installation of a lift between floors. This meant that the homeowners could continue to live a full life in a two storey home – a design ‘must’ for the family.

According to William, one of the high points of the build was seeing his mum and his daughter Ivy, use the lift for the very first time.

Taking just twelve months to complete the build, the construction process was a real family affair. CW Langton Ltd and William Langton, undertook the roles of designer, project management and main contractor, assisted on site by William’s 78 years old father, Graham Langton!

With beautiful, landscaped gardens, a large sweeping drive (fondly named  as the M25 by the family), this impressive home gives a slight nod to the past with its Victorian villa design but is without doubt a modern SIPs home rooted firmly in the present. With energy efficient features such as integrated solar panels and battery storage and substantial glazing for solar gain, there is nothing the homeowners would have done differently.

This was our 36th Build with SIPS@Clays. I live in a SIPs house, as do my parents and many of my tenants. We like the many benefits that a SIPS system offers and love the houses this method of construction creates. In fact, we have not sold a single one and still have all 36 in the portfolio. A SIPs house is a house too good to sell!
